Luke 14:28-30 says, “For which of you, intending to build a
tower, does not first sit down and estimate the cost, to see whether he has
enough to complete it? Otherwise, when he has laid the foundation and is not
able to finish, all who see it will begin to ridicule him.” Jesus was warning
of the cost of following him and it is true that this may be significant. But
if we worry too much about the cost, we will never get started. Somehow, we
need to keep a balance between the benefits and the cost and trusting that it
can be done.
