Continue in the faith

Haiku responding to 2 Tim 3:14 - 4:5

Continue in faith,

that which you learned and believed

from your youngest days.

All your life you've known

sacred writings that instruct

about salvation.

Scripture is inspired

by God. It instructs, corrects,

leads to righteousness.

As a child of God

you should be well trained, equipped

for ev'ry good work.

Proclaim the message

with persistence. Be patient,

and encouraging.

With time, sound teaching

will be shunned; people will choose

teachers that please them.

Many folk will turn

from truth, preferring easy

lies and foolish myths.

Live truly, endure

suffering, share the good news,

fulfil your calling.

A lesson in prayer

Haiku of generosity

Lord, teach us to pray.
A request from disciples
eager to know more.

He tells a story
of a nocturnal knocking,
requesting three loaves.

Don’t ask me for bread;
that is far too much trouble!
(This could not happen!)

The story’s hearers
would have laughed in disbelief.
Quite impossible!

Hospitality’s
demands for generousness
are laid before us.

This lesson in prayer
offers one decisive point:
God is generous

When we come in prayer
to God we can be assured:
God is here for us.

The harvest is great

He travelled about,
teaching in their synagogues,
proclaiming good news.

Jesus wept for them:
like sheep without a shepherd,
helpless and harrassed.

Call out to the Lord,
more labourers are needed;
the harvest awaits.

So much to be done
to bring peace, healing, wholeness,
forgiveness and hope.

The time had arrived.
He called the twelve together,
gave them the challenge.

Heal, bring life and love,
show them the kingdom is near.
Teach them about God.

Do it in my name.
Show God's generosity,
don't expect payment,

Bring in the harvest;
gather the people who love
into the kingdom.
